Do you know my good friend Marsha? She’s very exuberant and encouraging. The word negativity is not even in her vocabulary. No—you don’t know her? Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret—I don’t know her either. But I feel as if I know her like she’s an old pal or friend from high school.

You see, for the last few months Mr. Groovy and I have been following Marsha Wright on Twitter. Marsha has a very successful, inspirational platform she built on Twitter for people to shout out and share positive messages. It goes by the hashtag #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha.

#ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha has become a movement on Twitter. Marsha’s followers share quotes from the masters—Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Abraham Lincoln, Maya Angelou, Stephen Covey, Aristotle, Dr. Seuss and more. Original quotes and affirmations are also tweeted, often accompanied by beautiful images. Marsha’s moderators retweet these messages to her almost 400,000 followers and occasionally Marsha, herself, chimes in with positive reinforcement and words of wisdom. #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha began in 2014 on Twitter—it’s had 2.5 million hashtag shares and trended 500+ times.

Marsha has a few ground rules. First and foremost, no negativity is tolerated. No religious, political or self-promoting tweets are allowed. And no tweets with links will be shared—only text and images.

Because #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha actually begins Saturday night here in North Carolina, Mr. Groovy and I begin to discuss the quotes we want to share by late afternoon on Saturdays. We’ve made a little game out of this and jot down inspiring messages during the week as well. Once in a while I point out a good line from one of Mr. Groovy’s posts, but we mostly stick with the masters.

#ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha has become an integral part of our weekend. What better way to start the week (or end it, depending on how you view it) than by diving into upbeat quotes? If you’ve been following Freedom Is Groovy, you know that I’ve personally been trying to up my game in the positivity arena so this has been particularly helpful to me. Another bright spot is how Mr. Groovy and I have discovered a number of interesting new people and blogs through #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha. As an extra bonus, we’ve noticed page views on Freedom Is Groovy often spike on Sundays. When your tweets are shared with 400,000 people you’re bound to get a few new visitors.

So just who is Marsha Wright? She’s an author, speaker, business expert and serial-entrepreneur. She grew up in a lousy neighborhood in London with a single mother—her father went to jail when she was five years old. She was a disinterested student who dropped out of high school but was driven to become an over-achiever. According to her website she studies twenty to thirty hours a week to hone her expertise. She wakes up before 4:00 am daily and reads four to eight books a week. Her mission is to empower individuals, families, communities, corporations, countries and continents.

Marsha and her husband Simon have built several businesses, including an investment and acquisitions firm and a publishing/media company. Their Leveraging Strategic Alliances Corp (LSA) forms global alliances with businesses and individuals. The development of licensing methodologies and intellectual property assets is a core goal of LSA which I find fascinating. Marsha and Simon’s philanthropic reach is also quite impressive. One initiative, a mentorship program called The Family Academy, strives to help 5,000 disadvantaged families become financially free and successful.

So there you have it. Now that you know a little bit about my friend Marsha, why not join the #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha movement and make Marsha your friend too.

  1. This is why I read blogs. I’ve honestly NEVER heard of her until now. I didn’t know about this Twitter event either despite being on Twitter a lot.

Thank you for the heads up. BTW, pretty impressed with how she built a following on Twitter. I’ve been hearing from successful bloggers that my focus should be Pinterest and to not focus on Twitter so much.

Yet this woman managed to build a HUGE following with Twitter. Pretty amazing.

    1. Yes, my friend Marsha is one smart cookie! I’m pretty sure she already had a huge name before she started the movement. But now, she gains several hundred followers a day on Twitter! It’s a brilliant strategy. You get exposed to 400,000 of Marsha’s followers while everyone tweeting is making their own followers aware of Marsha. It’s kind of self-perpetuating, if that’s the right term.

For every rule there’s a rule in opposition. It seems we all just need to find what works for us. Certainly when you were focusing more on art and sharing sketches, etc. I could see Pinterest maybe being a better platform for you. Though what do I know? We first need to start exploring the alternatives.

  2. Like Margaret Thatcher, she wakes up at 4am.
Unlike Maragret Thatcher, Marsha is doing many great things for many people.

Oh crap, slipping into political undertones here. My bad.

Let’s get positive . “For it is in giving that we receive”, said the very wise Francis of Assisi.

I think that’s what Marsha is all about.

    1. Are you still drinking that single malt liquor, Mr. Pie? I’m still laughing my a– off about that comment/monologue. I loved it! And Mr. Groovy does enough with the political undertones (his are more like overtones) for all of us. Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Very timely question. How perceptive of you….

I am delighted that I can provide a dose of silliness to further enhance the Groovy world.

Anyway, back to your perceptive question: Mr and Mrs PIE were actually just noticing at the weekend that our malt whisky collection at the mountain home is getting dangerously low. Like drought level low. Now I would normally blame it on the service people who are known to frequent our home and fix various things. Or should I say drink us bloody dry and charge us an arm and a leg for band-aiding the problem. But no, I must not place the blame on others. It must be Mrs. PIE resorting to late night binges to dull the pain of my inane ramblings on all things related to living. She is a tortured soul and whisky is indeed a soothing medicine.

It is apparent that the cocktail of Mr. Groovy, myself and a wee dram (or eight) of single malt mixed together would be a bit like a Molotov cocktail . Not pretty at all. But it would be a blast doing the experiment….

        1. While you and Mr. Groovy perform that experiment Mrs. Pie and I might feel the need to be as far away as possible. Perhaps we’d go to a spa or mineral springs in pursuit of massages, mud baths and soothing waters.

    1. Anytime, Gary. I noticed you already joined in the fun. It’s a great way to get involved in a community and to find some golden nuggets. I really enjoy the occasional funny/inspirational quote.
