What Taxes Should Our Businesses Collect?

Saw the following headline when I visited Yahoo Finance the other day:

Americans bear almost all the cost of Trump tariffs, study shows

I’m not surprised. American businesses would be hard-pressed not to pass on any added tariff costs to the American consumer.

But you want to know what other costs American businesses also pass on to the American consumer? Corporate income taxes, payroll taxes, excise taxes, and property taxes.

And I’ve never seen an article in Yahoo Finance bemoaning how increasing any of those costs would negatively impact the American consumer.

It seems to me that there’s no getting around the convenience of American businesses being our tax collectors. What we have to decide is the kind of taxes we want them to collect. Do we want them to collect taxes that encourage domestic production? Or do we want them to collect taxes that encourage overseas production?

Since I’d rather see more domestic production, I’m in favor of tariffs. And if we’re really concerned about the effect of tariffs on the American consumer, we could lower all the other taxes businesses pay accordingly.
