On day six of our Australian adventure, we spent the day in Manly. Manly wasn’t on our radar, but we met a wonderful young lady named Maddie at the Midnight Special earlier in the week, and she said Manly was definitely worth a visit. So thanks to our new Aussie friend, Maddie, who happens to work at a Manly bar called The Ivanhoe Hotel, we decided to give our Opal cards and the Sydney ferries a workout. And we weren’t disappointed. Manly was a lot of fun, and The Ivanhoe was a blast. Maddie even took a half hour break from her manager duties to sit down with us for a nice chat. After Manly, we had some great burgers and sweet potato fries at a place called Macelleria. I don’t want to slight the burgers—they were very good—but the sweet potato fries gave both me and Mrs. G tremendous CMLTs. Best sweet potato fries we ever had. Finally, we ended our day with a few libations at Earl’s Juke Joint. Earl’s is an interesting place. It’s a classic dive bar with a New Orleans theme, and it occupies the space of a former butcher shop. How do I know this? It never changed the entrance. It still says Betta Meats.

Here’s a picture of our new Aussie friend, Maddie.

And, finally, here’s the fifth installment of our Talking Trash Down Under series.

  1. That’s great! I love Australia and New Zealand. They are such fun places. My aunt lives in Melbourne so I’m sure I’ll visit again someday.
Enjoy your trip! Good luck with the Sydney bridge climb too. That’s too scary for me. 🙂
