It’s spring cleaning time, and a few days ago, while I was bringing order to my chaotic bedroom closet, I came across a list of my top ten movie comedies. Here it is.

I don’t know when I wrote this list. But it looks like it has a lot of recency bias, so I figure I wrote it in 2015 or 2016.

Anyway, what was I thinking? Yes, Waiting for Guffman is hilarious. But is it more hilarious than Slap Shot or Trading Places? And how can I leave out National Lampoon’s Vacation? And what about Airplane and Caddyshack?

So for the sake of common decency, let me revise my top ten movie comedies. Here they are without the foul contamination of recency bias.

Honorable Mentions

Okay, groovy freedomist, that’s all I got. What say you? Do you agree with my revised top ten movie comedies? Or is my revised list still screwed up?

P.S. I finally finished the fist for the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame. Shipping to Buffalo next week. Check it out.

  1. I like Mel Brooks movies but prefer ‘Young Frankenstein’ to ‘Blazing Saddles’. Another favorite of mine, although not pure comedy is the Coen brothers ‘Oh Bother, Where Art Though’.

  2. I think that this nostalgia confirms that Hollyweird is not creating much memorable content.
Their focus seems to be on the 12 year old C. G. I. crowd, the usual woke suspects and the regular ongoing drug deaths of some celebs.
Your most loud voice is your vote and every penny you spend. Avoid squandering either.

  3. Was I really married to you when you wrote this list? Only Tropic Thunder makes the cut for me. And Some Like it Hot is worth the honorable mention. For top ten TV comedies I think we’d agree on Trailer Park Boys making the list.

  4. I agree with Napoleon Dynamite and There’s Something About Mary. Additionally, I enjoy watching the National Lampoons (The Vacation series, Caddyshack, Animal House, etc) and Tootsie, but I would not rank any in my top ten.

Comedy isn’t my genre, but I have a few favorites, including: Bad Santa, Get Shorty, Tommy Boy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Office Space, Liar Liar, True Lies, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Rundown, and The Big Lebowski.
