A Perfect Example of Why I’m a Skeptic Regarding the Seriousness of Climate Change

From what I can gather, here are the latest incentives for buying an electric plug-in vehicle in the Build Back Better Act (see pages 1480-1493):

Now, we are told by our betters that man-made climate change is an existential threat. The science is settled for heaven’s sake! So why are our intellectually and morally superior betters in Congress playing around with the incentives for buying an EV? Why is union labor favored over non-union labor?

Call me nuts, but if our intellectually and morally superior betters in Congress really believed that we’re on the precipice of an environmental catastrophe, they wouldn’t be engaging in crony capitalism and throwing a nice, meaty bone to GM, Ford, and the UAW.

Bison Build Update

The main motivation behind my bison build is Mrs. Groovy. She loves Montana, and since moving to Montana isn’t practical at this point in our lives, I decided to move a little part of Montana to Franklin County, North Carolina. At some point next spring, Mrs. Groovy will be able to sit on our screened-in porch and look at a metal bison migrating across our lawn.

And to solidify the connection between Billy Bob and the great state of Montana, we purchased an old Montana license plate. Here’s said license plate attached to Billy Bob’s right rump/flank. Pretty neat, huh?

    Ah, yes—nothing says ‘saving the planet’ like stuffing union pork into an EV subsidy. Maybe Congress should rename it ‘Global warming’ since they’re so busy digging tunnels for special interests instead of tackling the actual problem. But hey, at least Billy Bob the bison will look fabulous on your lawn while the elites play their games!

    Maybe global warming is real. Maybe it isn’t. Maybe I should believe one way or another according to the way rich people act.

    If global warming is real, then sea levels to be rising as the ice caps melt. And houses on the waterfront will soon be below sea level and wash away. Now follow the money. All the rich people are selling their soon-to-be-worthless beachfront properties.

    Right? Aren’t they?

      Yep. Manhattan is pretty much at sea level. But even though it will soon be underwater according to our morally and intellectually superior betters, the price of Manhattan real estate keeps going up. Strange.

    Ah, climate change. Is it real or isn’t it? That seems to have been the debate with heated arguments on both sides and under different names (remember global warming?) for decades now. For me, the answer is simple. As inhabitants of this planet we have a moral obligation to take care of it. This, to me, means minimizing any negative impact our lives may have on it. For example, we built a well insulated, almost all electric house. I say almost because we did add a propane freestanding fireplace so we have heat in the winter when the power goes out and just bought a small inverter generator for the same reason. We’re looking to subscribe to one of those solar farms since solar panels won’t work well on our wooded lot. We left as many trees as possible on our property and only cut those that are a danger. We changed all our bulbs to florescent and then to LED early on. We minimize our driving, averaging under 8,000 miles a year, and drive fuel efficient cars. We pick up trash when we’re out walking and try to recycle as much as we can. We try to buy quality items that last instead of the throw away junk from China. We’re not perfect, of course, and there is room to improve what we do but if we all tried to be better stewards of this planet, life would be better for everyone, climate change or not. I grew up with great advertising like “Give a hoot, don’t pollute” and “Only you can prevent forest fires”. This made taking care of our environment personal, not something to be delegated to politicians and others at a far away summit.

    By the way, love the Bison! Great job!

      Haha! “Give a hoot, don’t pollute.” I love it. Was it Woodsie the Owl giving that advice in the commercials? But I totally agree with your sentiment. We have a moral obligation to be good stewards of our planet and I can’t wait until Mr. Musk mainstreams electric cars. Have a great weekend, my friend. Cheers.
