Mrs. Groovy here. Just another day in paradise in NC. Hope y’all are doing well!
To those of you attending FinCon—have a wonderful time! We’ll see you next year if we’re still doing this blogging thingy. Who knows what the future holds for us two groovy cats.
Groovy Ranch
Work is moving along swimmingly at Groovy Ranch. The roofing guys are working on the metal roofs—we’re doing a screw-down metal roof over the garage and a standing-seam roof over the front porch. The supplier got it backwards and the workers arrived on site with the wrong materials. But they got it straightened out and began installing the screw-down materials on the garage roof.
Yesterday we met with Terry’s son Cameron to go over the layout for the closet shelves and rods. All shelving will be constructed of wood—Terry doesn’t even use MDF (medium density fiberboard), which you’d be lucky to get in a tract-built home in a subdivision. I’m gonna have me a house with NO wire shelving! That means no more tipped over ketchup and salad dressing bottles in the pantry!
Here’s a photo of the bi-fold doors in the master bedroom. You can also see that Terry and his crew have begun working on the trim and molding.
Terry’s still working on securing the material to create the shiplap accent wall surrounding our fireplace (in Ranch Update 27 we showed an image of what we’re looking for). Terry thought he located the correct material but it wasn’t fire retardant. And it wouldn’t come close to passing inspection. But he’s got something else up his sleeve he thinks will work.
Lastly, Terry constructed and added an architectural element to the exterior of the house that was called for in our plans. It’s a little accent piece that Mr. Groovy didn’t really care about, but I’m partial to it. I’ve since found out the element is called a gable bracket. You can see it at the top of this image.
Groovy Book
Since The Groovy Guide to Financial Independence published two weeks ago, Mr. Groovy has taped three podcast episodes. Listen for him in the coming weeks on Lifelong Learning with Kate Nesi, Stacking Benjamins with Joe Saul-Sehy (yes Mr. Groovy made a trip to the basement), and Countdown to FI with Mr. CTF. He has several additional interviews lined up. We’ll share more about them soon.
Thanks to Amy and Vicki for a fabulous book review on Women’s Money Talk. I’ve been linking to their book review as well as Josh’s fabulous write-up in my requests for podcast interviews for Mr. Groovy. Who needs a publicist when you’ve got Amy and Vicki and Josh in your corner? And another thank you to those of you who’ve put the book cover and link to Amazon on your site. That’s Amy and Vicki again, Ty from Campfire Finance, Claudia and Garret from Two Cup House, and Brad and Jonathan from Choose FI. You’ve all been incredibly generous in giving us valuable real estate on your sites. We really appreciate it.
