Do you know my good friend Marsha? She’s very exuberant and encouraging. The word negativity is not even in her vocabulary. No—you don’t know her? Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret—I don’t know her either. But I feel as if I know her like she’s an old pal or friend from high school.
You see, for the last few months Mr. Groovy and I have been following Marsha Wright on Twitter. Marsha has a very successful, inspirational platform she built on Twitter for people to shout out and share positive messages. It goes by the hashtag #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha.
#ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha has become a movement on Twitter. Marsha’s followers share quotes from the masters—Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Abraham Lincoln, Maya Angelou, Stephen Covey, Aristotle, Dr. Seuss and more. Original quotes and affirmations are also tweeted, often accompanied by beautiful images. Marsha’s moderators retweet these messages to her almost 400,000 followers and occasionally Marsha, herself, chimes in with positive reinforcement and words of wisdom. #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha began in 2014 on Twitter—it’s had 2.5 million hashtag shares and trended 500+ times.
Marsha has a few ground rules. First and foremost, no negativity is tolerated. No religious, political or self-promoting tweets are allowed. And no tweets with links will be shared—only text and images.
Because #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha actually begins Saturday night here in North Carolina, Mr. Groovy and I begin to discuss the quotes we want to share by late afternoon on Saturdays. We’ve made a little game out of this and jot down inspiring messages during the week as well. Once in a while I point out a good line from one of Mr. Groovy’s posts, but we mostly stick with the masters.
#ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha has become an integral part of our weekend. What better way to start the week (or end it, depending on how you view it) than by diving into upbeat quotes? If you’ve been following Freedom Is Groovy, you know that I’ve personally been trying to up my game in the positivity arena so this has been particularly helpful to me. Another bright spot is how Mr. Groovy and I have discovered a number of interesting new people and blogs through #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha. As an extra bonus, we’ve noticed page views on Freedom Is Groovy often spike on Sundays. When your tweets are shared with 400,000 people you’re bound to get a few new visitors.
So just who is Marsha Wright? She’s an author, speaker, business expert and serial-entrepreneur. She grew up in a lousy neighborhood in London with a single mother—her father went to jail when she was five years old. She was a disinterested student who dropped out of high school but was driven to become an over-achiever. According to her website she studies twenty to thirty hours a week to hone her expertise. She wakes up before 4:00 am daily and reads four to eight books a week. Her mission is to empower individuals, families, communities, corporations, countries and continents.
Marsha and her husband Simon have built several businesses, including an investment and acquisitions firm and a publishing/media company. Their Leveraging Strategic Alliances Corp (LSA) forms global alliances with businesses and individuals. The development of licensing methodologies and intellectual property assets is a core goal of LSA which I find fascinating. Marsha and Simon’s philanthropic reach is also quite impressive. One initiative, a mentorship program called The Family Academy, strives to help 5,000 disadvantaged families become financially free and successful.
So there you have it. Now that you know a little bit about my friend Marsha, why not join the #ThinkBigSundayWithMarsha movement and make Marsha your friend too.
