Kimba the White Bison?

I asked Mrs. Groovy yesterday if we should rename my bison Kimba.

No, I wasn’t being serious. My clanking monstrosity of rebar, sheet metal, and hand tools and utensils will still go by the name of Billy Bob.

But right now Billy Bob is white. That’s the color of the primer and rust inhibitor I used to begin the painting regiment. And as I stood back and admired my handiwork, I was immediately reminded of a childhood cartoon named Kimba the White Lion.

Since Mrs. Groovy and I are contemporaries, I figured she’d get a kick out of my Kimba query. But no. She had no recollection of that cartoon.

Anyway, here’s the theme song to that 60s-era cartoon.

Next week, as long as the temperature remains above 50 degrees, Billy Bob should find himself adorned with his final colors—black and brown. Let me know what you think of Kimba the White Bison when you get a chance. Have a great weekend. Peace.

The Kimba reference made me recall it was my younger brother’s favorite show. He measured time in “kimbas”. In other words, on long road trips, it was “how many kimbas” until we get there? He knew how long each episode took on tv.
Fabulous bison, btw. I’ve enjoyed watching the progress.

  Measuring road trips in “kimbas”–that’s awesome. Your brother is very creative. When we were younger, my brother, sister, and I would measure road trips in signposts. When we were driving from New York to Boston, for instance, we knew we were halfway there when we passed the big bug sitting atop a pest control’s office building. Thanks for stopping by, Jennifer. Kimba was HUGE in Australia in the late 60’s. I still remember playing ‘Kimba’ in primary school with my friends.

Honestly, I wish you could have just put a clear coat on Billy Bob but will see if I change my mind after you’re done painting your masterpiece. I’m still very impressed by what you’ve been able to create as a relatively new welder. Great job!

  I hear ya, Pat. A number of friends and family have intimated the same thing. My gut reaction, obviously, was to scoff at the suggestion. But now when I compare the unpainted Billy Bob to the painted Billy Bob, I think you and the other clear-coat enthusiasts have a point. Damn!     Clear might be better if we’re the only ones looking at Billy Bob. But with the rather large distance from where you place him to the road, I think you need the color.

      I think you’re on to something Mrs. G. If we’re going to become the legends of Franklin County, our bison should probably stand out like a neon sign.
