Be less lazy.

Be less useless.

Be less shortsighted.

Follow these three rules every day as best you can and you will build wealth. You may not ever get rich or achieve financial independence, but you will eventually find yourself in a better place. If you’re unhoused (i.e., homeless), you will soon be housed. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, you will soon be living surplus to surplus. And if you’re a bumbling man-child who has a long history of shooting himself in his foot financially, you will soon marry one of the grooviest chicks on the planet and transform yourself into a financial juggernaut.

  1. Uh, hate to be disagreeable, but there is a small matter of spending less than you make. Gotta do that unless you’re sitting on an infinite stash of money.

It’s implicit in your 3rd point, but it needs to be said.

    1. Agreed. Pithiness lacks preciseness, and that shortcoming poses a degree of risk. “Spending less than you make” is exactly where I was going with the third point. But would non-FIRE people realize that? Thank you for clearing up the ambiguity, my friend. Peace.

  2. LOL, yep, you did yourself a solid when you married Mrs. G. But she got a great deal too. 🙂 Love you both!!!
