What’s a cut in federal spending? To me, it’s when a federal agency has less money to spend in the current year than it did in the previous year. The Department of Education spent $100 billion last year, but this year it only gets to spend $99 billion. There was a billion dollar cut in its budget.
But that’s not how our “hard-hitting” journalists understand cuts. To them, a “cut” is when an agency’s budget doesn’t grow as much as planned. So if the Department of Education spends $6 billion more this year than last year, but it was originally slated to spend $8 billion more, our “hard-hitting” journalists will report that the Department of Education suffered a $2 billion cut to its funding.
Another thing our “hard-hitting” journalists don’t understand is crime reporting. To me, you report crime to warn the public where danger lurks, and get the bad guys off the street. So if you talk to an assault victim, you get a full description of the criminal and report that full description. And if you have video of a crime, you broadcast the best visible shot of the criminal. But that’s not how our “hard-hitting” journalists report crime. For some reason they are very reticent to disclose the skin color of the criminal. They’ll assume the criminal’s sex, age, and height. But they’ll never assume the criminal’s race or ethnicity. And if they have video of a crime, and the criminal is believed to be a minor, they’ll blur the criminal’s face. Why? If minors are old enough to change their sex, aren’t they also old enough to be held accountable for their crimes?
I really don’t know why anyone would watch or read the news. Our “hard-hitting” journalists are simply piss-poor stewards of information. They report, not to make us wiser, but to make us more beholden to some agenda or political party.
Okay, groovy freedomist, that’s all I got. I have absolutely no faith in the news put together by our “hard-hitting” journalists. Do you? Let me know what you think when you get a chance. Peace.
